BETSY ROSS is an engaging, rhythmic poem for young children that describes Betsy Ross creating our national flag. It seemed only natural, given what Betsy does in the poem (CLIP, CLIP.......SNIP, SNIP.........STITCH, STITCH.......) that I take scissors, 
needle, and thread in hand to create the illustrations. I found myself dying fabric and sewing snippets of cloth instead of painting with watercolors or oils. It was quite a departure from my previous books but one that resulted in a harmonious blend of words and images...and a technique that I greatly enjoyed. I hope you do, too!
